Session Description:

This workshop will address the spectrum of eating disordered behaviors from a trauma perspective with EMDR therapy. Individuals are rarely born with distorted eating patterns. An increasing number of studies make the connection between adverse life experiences and the development of inappropriate relationships with food and exercise as coping mechanisms. Inappropriate relationships with food and exercise develop along a full continuum from disordered eating to a full-blown eating disordered behavior. The trainer will present from her 20+ years of experience utilizing the 8-phases and 3-pronged protocol of EMDR therapy with individuals suffering from eating disorders and disordered eating.

Learning Objective 1

Participants will be able to summarize the history of an eating disorder or disordered eating as it relates to the AIP model.

Learning Objective 2

Participants will be able to describe the trauma connection as it relates to individuals with eating disorders and disordered eating.

Learning Objective 3

Participants will be able to list at least three commonly held Negative Cognitions associated with those suffering with Eating Disorders and disordered eating.

Learning Objective 4

Participants will be able to articulate a treatment plan utilizing the full 8-phases and 3-pronged protocol of EMDR therapy with eating disorders and disordered eating.
